Cow Palace Grand Nationals
Drill Team Jackpot Ride
October 13-14, 2011

Welcome to the 2nd annual

Grand Nationals Drill Team Jackpot  Competition

held on October 13-14, 2011 in conjunction with
the GRAND NATIONALS RODEO

What an exciting event this will be!  The day of competition will lead into
DRILL TEAM NIGHT at the rodeo.  Teams will be featured in the Grand Entry
and the winning team will be able to perform during the rodeo.
How exciting for the sport of drill!  Each team will become a piece of history.

What is a jackpot competition?  It's a new twist on drill competitions.
All  teams will compete in 3 Go's.  All teams, no matter what the size or age,
have a shot at not only winning the cash payout and trophy but being the
GRAND NATIONAL WINNERS.

This year, we are also awarding 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons so each
member will have a memento of Cow Palace to take home.
We are also going to award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons in
the Freestyle, Themed and Patriotic Go's.

First Go (all teams must participate) will be in the FREESTYLE drill, no flags.  To make this equitable for all size teams, there will be no extra points for larger teams.  Each team will be judged on their execution style.  It will be quality of the drill over the quantity of riders.  Each team will have 10 minutes to perform their drill.  There is no time minimum but 2 points will be deducted from teams for each minute that goes over the 10 minutes.

Second Go is the THEMED drill.  Once again, no flags unless it it pertinent to your costume.  Teams will be judged on the originality of costumes, music, execution of the drill, crowd appeal, and cleverness of your costumes.  This drill has a 5 minute time frame.  Points will be deducted for going over the 5 minutes.  Size of the team will not be included as part of the judging so smaller teams have a chance against larger teams.  We want teams to have fun with this Go!

Third  Go is the PATRIOTIC drill.  Flag protocol and music that is appropriate for honoring and carrying our nation's flag are key.  Teams will be judged on flag protocol, music, execution and audience appeal.  Once again, teams have 5 minutes to perform their drill.

The scores will be tallied up and the teams with the best overall average scores
will be named First, Second and Third place winners.  They will receive a
cash payout, ribbons, trophies and one team will walk away with the title
GRAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONS.

Oh, but there's more.

Teams will also be invited to compete in the Murrel Lacey Trophy ride.  This ride will not be added to your overall score but teams will be riding for a trophy.  Teams will be assigned 3 drill moves and will have 3 minutes to execute those moves for a chance to win the trophy.  Ask the teams from last year.  They had a blast with this.

Oh, but there's more.

The team that sells the most rodeo tickets will have the chance to win 3 FREE STALLS.

The team that travels the farthest wins a free stall.

We will have a stall decoration contest.

The Grand Nationals and the Cow Palace want drill teams to have a good time and be part of this wonderful event.  Not only do you get to compete and show off the sport of drill, but teams get to be part of the historic and wonderful Grand Nationals at the Cow Palace.  Each team has the opportunity to have a little bit of history to remember.
